Buckinghamshire 11+ Practice & Format Guide (STT 2026)

The Buckinghamshire Secondary Transfer Test (STT) is the 11+ used to select places at grammar schools across the county, including schools in Aylesbury, High Wycombe, Amersham and Beaconsfield. It is set by GL Assessment and sat in September of Year 6. Below is the current format and free practice questions.

A train travels 270 km in 3 hours. What is its average speed in km/h?
Answer: 90 km/h. Speed = distance ÷ time = 270 ÷ 3 = 90 km/h.

Answer: 84. 10% of 240 = 24. So 30% = 72 and 5% = 12. 35% = 72 + 12 = 84.

Answer: kind. Benevolent means well-meaning and kind towards others.
Question 4 · Verbal Reasoning
FEATHER is to BIRD as SCALE is to ?
Answer: FISH. Feathers are the covering of a bird; scales are the covering of a fish.
Question 5 · Verbal Reasoning
What comes next in the sequence? 2, 6, 18, 54, ___
Answer: 162. Each term is multiplied by 3: 2×3=6, 6×3=18, 18×3=54, 54×3=162.
Question 6 · Maths
A bag contains 3 red, 5 blue and 2 green marbles. One marble is picked at random. What is the probability it is blue?
Answer: 1/2. Total marbles = 3 + 5 + 2 = 10. Blue marbles = 5. P(blue) = 5/10 = 1/2.
Question 7 · Verbal Reasoning
Which does NOT belong: Robin, Sparrow, Salmon, Finch?
Answer: Salmon. Robin, sparrow and finch are all birds. A salmon is a fish, so it is the odd one out.
Question 8 · Verbal Reasoning
Complete the analogy: GLOVE is to HAND as SOCK is to ?
Answer: FOOT. A glove is worn on a hand; a sock is worn on a foot.
Question 9 · Maths
A rectangle has a perimeter of 56 cm. Its length is 18 cm. What is its width?
Answer: 10 cm. Perimeter = 2 × (length + width). 56 = 2 × (18 + w). So 28 = 18 + w, giving w = 10 cm.
